Fundus examination showed a flat demarcation-like line in retinal periphery (a). FA images showed areas of capillary non-perfusion and arteriovenous shunting in what appeared to be mature retinal vessels (b, c). The patient was placed on rigorous monitoring and intensive regulation of oxygen. She was reassessed 1 week later (38 weeks). Fundus examination revealed formation of new vessels and patches (“islands”) of leaking vessels (d). Twelve weeks later, weekly screening showed that vessels continued growing toward the periphery (e). This patient was classified as group 1
